6 Apps for Worker Safety Part 2

One of the most exciting aspects of the construction industry is the emergence of new technology. Innovations on and off the jobsite are making it easier to keep jobs on track, collaborate across locations, and assess site conditions, among many other tasks. Not often discussed, but equally important, is technology’s role in worker safety. There are numerous apps that make staying safe a snap. If safety is easier to attain, less accidents will occur. FallClearLITE

The app measures fall clearance for lifelines and fall arrest systems. Workers can input their position relative to the anchor point, their weight, and other important information to determine the fall clearance. Your lanyard length and harness type can be entered into the system as well.

NIOSH Ladder Safety App

This app helps workers properly set up their ladders for work at heights. The app features an angle of inclination indicator that helps you place your ladders at a 75.5 degree angle. Ladders are one of the largest sources of injury among construction workers and a point of emphasis for OSHA. This app has a built-in accelerometer that detects when a worker has fallen from heights. When a fall is detected, the app will sound an alarm, send a text message to the individual’s emergency contacts, and send a map with a pushpin so that they can be located.
