Understanding Accelerated Bridge Construction Technology Part 3

When it comes to constructing a new bridge, we want our clients’ projects to run smoothly. If we can decrease the overall construction time on a project, make cost-effective decisions to reduce construction costs, and create sustainable long-term solutions for our infrastructure problems, this would be ideal for builders and help prevent liability issues. As Birmingham construction lawyers, we also know that providing safe solutions for both workers and the public during the construction process is  important as well.

Unfortunately, with new innovations there are often setbacks like the recent tragedy of the collapsed bridge in Miami. Although accelerated bridge construction (ABC) technology experienced a major disappointment, the strategy and proper implementation of this process can be greatly beneficial to the future of the construction industry and has the potential to change the way contractors approach projects. As we will discuss in this section and sections four and five, there are numerous benefits to this technology when it is properly applied. For more information on the ABC process, please review sections one and two.

Greatly Reduces Traffic Issues

The biggest motivator for developing this ABC process was to reduce the impact of traffic-related issues during significant roadway construction. There are a lot of undesirable aspects to roadway construction including extended detours, impeded traffic patterns, and limited construction hours to perform work. These issues can affect everything from the overall amount of time a project takes to complete to the safety of the workers and motorists.

Increases Productivity and Safety Prevention

ABC technology can greatly reduce these construction issues by offering construction builders a safer environment than the conventional construction process. When the process is properly implemented on roadways, reducing the total time that workers are present in a vulnerable situation lowers the risk that workers and motorists experience during the construction process. It also increases the productivity of all parties involved as well.

Beneficial for the Surrounding Environment

Often contractors can experience delays because they are working on a project in an environmentally sensitive area. With certain restrictions, this can significantly impact a project and greatly prolong the amount of time it takes to complete the work that is needed. By performing the building process remotely and then transferring the material to the location, construction crews can finish a project in a timely fashion and not have to worry about environmental restrictions or other on-site setbacks. In other words, spending less time on location means that the environmental footprint will be less impacted and the project can move forward more smoothly.
