Florida Roofing Weather Safety Tips

From heat waves to hurricanes, Florida is home to extreme weather. Florida also contains 17 of 30 cities in the U.S. with the most lightning. On top of a roof, you and your team are exposed to the elements. This precarious position can be a dangerous place in a storm.

If you need legal assistance for any of your roofing projects, contact a roofing attorney in Florida today. Read on for some weather safety tips for yourself and your workers.

Set Storm Alerts

You already plan your schedule around the weather forecast, but sometimes storms come out of nowhere. Set up notifications on your smartphone to tell you when inclement weather is headed your way. Some apps have alerts that can tell you how far away lightning strikes are to keep workers safe.

Accommodations for Workers

Providing your workers with everything they need to ably protect themselves from sun, rain, snow, and more is essential for their safety. Distribute water to your workers at no charge to keep them hydrated. Dehydration can occur in any climate. Having shelter for workers in intense weather can keep them from succumbing to heat-related illnesses or from slipping on wet shingles.

Signs of Heat Illness

Most of the year, Florida weather is hot with the sun beating down all day long. Heat illness, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion, is preventable but can have terrible consequences if it’s not caught early enough. Train your workers to recognize the signs of heat illness:

  • Reddened skin
  • Nausea
  • Lack of sweat
  • Fast breathing
  • Lightheadedness
