The Top 5 States for Jobs in Construction Part 2
Your experience as a construction worker or contractor can vary greatly from state to state. Areas that experience severe weather, or are currently in a state of economic growth, usually have a high demand for skilled construction workers.
In part one of this two-part article, our Florida construction attorneys examined two of the best states for construction jobs: Florida and California. In part two, we will examine three more states with an exceptional need for skilled workers: Texas, Arizona, and Nevada.
Texas
Texas still requires assistance recovering from Hurricane Harvey, so there are many jobs for construction workers in the Lone Star State. Similar to Florida, Texas workers benefit from restoration projects after natural disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes. Texas highways, commercial buildings, and homes are facing significant obstacles on the road to recovery, so workers will be needed for the foreseeable future. Texas is one of seven states that doesn’t have income tax, which means you’ll take home higher wages at the end of the day.
High-profile projects in Texas are falling behind deadline due to the increased demand for workers to help restore infrastructure after Hurricane Harvey. That means even more workers are needed to address the state’s construction needs. For example, workers are needed for the $1.1 billion Texas Rangers stadium in Arlington that is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in 2020.
Arizona
Arizona is another state struggling to keep up with its own economic growth due to a lack of skilled labor. Although companies are ready to start working on Arizona’s postponed construction projects, a stark increase in available workers is needed before any projects can proceed. Workers in Arizona benefit from a low cost of living and high-end earning potential. One report muses that companies will turn to automation as a means of replacing human jobs that can’t be filled if development continues to stagnate. The long-term implications of automation could have major implications on the future of our labor force.
Nevada
The Battle Born State possesses many of the same characteristics as Arizona when considering its numerous benefits for construction workers. High demand, competitive wages, and a reasonable cost of living help establish Nevada as one of the best states for construction workers. Construction is the fastest growing facet of Nevada’s economy, which recently cleared the way for an NFL stadium and the expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Las Vegas Valley plans to employ 33,000 construction workers over the next few years, and that doesn’t account for any other areas of Nevada that require workers.
